Panel discussion: The Practice of Personal Storytelling
Hosted in partnership with Storyborne Founder Bonnie Obremski, moderator
Thursday, July 25 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Free and open to the public
If you’re like me, you know what it’s like to be addicted to storytelling podcasts: This American Life, The Moth Radio Hour, Snap Judgement—I can’t get enough of the sharp beauty of the human condition. But lately I’ve been thinking about the story behind the stories. What is it like for an artist to share a personal story in front of a public audience? How does an artist develop a practice that allows them to both reveal and protect their vulnerability? How do friends and family manage their relationships with a personal storyteller, especially when they may be a subject of a story? For anyone who has told a personal story in any medium, or anyone who has wanted to but is afraid, or for friends, family and audiences who want to learn more about how to support artists and their relationships to those artists, this panel is for you. Join me, Bonnie Obremski, as I moderate a discussion between an audience and five people who represent the complex world of vulnerable personal storytelling.
Panelists: Dr. Jessica Tartaro, intimacy coach; Darcy Reeder, writer; Charles Reeder, Darcy’s partner and occasional subject of her writing; and two more artists TBD.
